Do Currency Rates Matter for Tourists?

If you are in Brazil, where the exchange rate of local currency (Brazilian Real) keeps climbing the answer should be yes… but figures are showing a different landscape: Brazilians spending abroad surpassed US$ 1.4 billion in February, according to Brazilian Central Bank.

That’s a surprising figure considering the exchange rate this month was US$1 = R$ 3,50. On the other hand, it confirms the so-called “Brazilian economy going back on track”.

And as if that was not enough, according to the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) from January to March 2018, Brazilian airlines carried 2.48 million passengers on international flights, which means a growth of 17.8 %, compared with the same period last year. On domestic flights, 23 million passengers were transported between January and March, an increase of 2.2% over the same period in 2017.

Why should a marketer care about it? Because this means a lot of opportunity for the entire industry! From airline companies to destinations and all kinds of travel agencies this is the right moment to boom your communications channels, get the attention of Brazilian tourists and see your business grow.

Ok, as people usually say, the Brazilian market is not for amateurs, so here's some more information about what locals are searching for when planning their next trip.

We love Lisbon!

Just for the record: Portugal colonized Brazil 518 years ago and, looks like Brazilians are missing them a lot!

In the list of Top 10 Favorite Destinations by Brazilians, Lisbon surpassed traditional Brazilian favourites: Miami and New York. That’s a finding from KAYAK’s Mobile Travel Report 2018.
